Nearly everyone loves the springtime, excepting that this is usually the season that ants are out and ready to invade your home. Below are some of the top tips that you can use to get ants out of your home and stop them from coming back.
1.Deterrence One of the best methods to ensure ants do not find your home an easy target is to block up as many of the entryways as possible. 2.Caulk Continuing with the blocking of entryways, try sealing your home with caulk in cracks, doors and windows that the ants are able to gain access to. 3.Vinegar Clean the surfaces in your home using a 50/50 solution of water and distilled white vinegar. The vinegar is effective as ants do not enjoy the smell and the vinegar also removes scent trails that the ants use in order to move around. 4.Lemon Juice Similar to vinegar pure lemon juice also breaks down scent trails. Lemon juice can also be used in common entry ways. 5.Peppermint Oil This method involves cleaning all surfaces extremely well and then using a damp cloth that has a couple of drop of peppermint essential oil on it to wipe down the surfaces. Ants also hate this smell.
6.Spices And Herbs
Another safe deterrent is to sprinkle chilli pepper, cinnamon, mint, cayenne pepper along the foundations of the homes. 7.Coffee Grounds Sprinkle any used coffee grounds around the outside of your home and in the garden, ants will generally move away from the area as they don’t like the smell. 8.Baby Powder Or Chalk Sprinkle the powder or draw lines with the chalk where the ant is known to gain access. Both these products contain talcum powder that is a known ant repellent. 9.Citrus Peels or Cucumber The citrus peels and cucumber are toxic to the fungi types that ants like to feed on they will generally stay away. 10.Dish Soap Place thin lines of liquid dish soap on doors, windows and baseboards. Another effective technique is to pour the soap directly onto the ant hills.
11.Black Pepper
Sprinkling black pepper directly over the ants will cause them to scatter, it is worthwhile following them when they scatter as they will lead you to the entry ways that they came in from. 12.Boiling Water For serious ant problems pour boiling water over the anthills. 13.Recycled Items If you keep recycled items make sure they have been washed and cleaned before storing them outside your home. 14.Stored Foods If opened boxes or bags cannot be closed completely place these items of food into plastic containers or resealable bags. 15.Avoid Leaving Food Out One of the best ways to keep ant invasions down is to make sure you never leave food lying around.
